Christmas 2008 was Halwyn's 10th Christmas. The weather bloomed, as usual for Queensland, Australia, hot and humid for Christmas day, with a thunderstorm the night before.
Although this post is "a very Halwyn Christmas" the action actually takes place the day before.
Sectuib Zoe Farris was floating around in the swimming pool. The weather being what it was I joined her. As it so often does after turnover, the conversation turned to transfer. This time, we were discussing, foolishly on my part at least, junct transfer, or, to be more precise, holds.
You see, it's all very well to say that if a gen were to press on nodes.... well, you know the old story. But what junct raider in his right mind is going to let a gen come anywhere near him PALMS UP? I mean, think about it - the gen is no doubt running away, the sime comes up on them from behind and grabs whatever happens to be at tentacles reach. They would swing the gen around, transfer (oh, ok, kill) would be almost instantaneous from that point - the gen would not have time to think about hand positions.
So here we are in the pool, in the cool, calm water, trying different wrist positions, pulling apart, trying something different, pulling apart again. Next thing I know - and a week early - well, maybe you can imagine it.
Needless to say, I was incensed!!! I felt betrayed, cheated - worse! Zoe gloated, which did not improve things.
But you know what? Taking transfer a week early might have done me a favour. You see, not next month, but the one after, it actually puts us to within hours of my birthday. And she owes me big time!
But as she pointed out later, when I had stopped hollaring, I had raised her intil by pulling away, not once, not twice, but three times. What did I expect?
And shameface I have to admit it. It hadn't occured to me - to me it had all be theoretical.
So I have to forgive her, after all, she is only Sime.
